Think before you drink

We are not concerned here so much about the evils of alcoholism, as we are about our tendency some times to sacrifice eternal benefits on the altar of the temporal. This phenomenon is exemplified best by the fool Esau. Coming in from the field tired and exhausted, he doesn’t pause for a moment of reflection before downing the bowl of lentil stew – in exchange for his birthright!

With a brother like Jacob, Esau ought to have been more careful, but the feller was so focused on immediate gratification that he lost out on durable benefits.

Lest we be trapped in lopsided trade, let no desire consume us.
