If thou be the son of God …..
This conditional phrase is invariably followed by a dare: do this or that seemingly impossible deed. Though nothing was impossible for Jesus, he was not in the business of entertaining. Marching steadfastly as He did to a divine drumbeat, Jesus would not allow Himself to be sidetracked by interruptions, whatever opportunities they might afford for grandstanding.
If you are not careful, it is easy enough to get dazzled by the bright lights and buntings and miss out on God’s higher purpose and plan.
Watch out for the tempter!
