Second-guessing God, Naomi?

Sometimes people get wind of the outworking of God and try to hasten the process with their own efforts. Thus it is that we see Naomi in this passage assisting God as it were, by giving Ruth some licentious advice. Obedient daughter-in-law that Ruth was, she followed the instructions of Naomi to a tee.

The whole scheme could have blown up with some unsavoury sexual gambol, had Boaz been a lesser man. Thankfully, God didn’t allow it.

Don’t run ahead of God!
