Et tu Samuel?

That Samuel had a private life apart from his function as a prophet and priest is not widely known. In the midst of his constant peregrination, he seems to have somehow found time for courtship and marriage! And by the time we meet his sons Joel and Abijah, they were grown men and were judges themselves! But sadly, unlike their father they were corrupt to the core.

The problem was whereas Samuel was dedicated to the Lord’s service, his sons were merely following dynastic traditions with no calling whatsoever. And unfortunately Samuel acquiesced.
