Misc. 2: Scream come true!

From Singapore with love (Judah 21 September 2019)

I say, disability has its advantages. How else having landed in Singapore fortuitously on a formula 1 week, would I get a ticket for Friday races if it were not for wheelchair reservations?

Oh, what a sight and sound! As though it wasn’t thrilling enough to watch Formula 1 creatures whizzing past at breakneck speed, Singapore has also pulled all stops in organizing a magnificent mega Carnival. The biggest names in the circuit like Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen, Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen were vying for attention, pitted as they were against showbiz biggies like Wolfgang Flur, Swedish House Mafia and DJ Honey.

Now everybody who is anybody wants to be seen in an evening like this. Women of all sizes and shapes – the younger ones wearing skirts of varying lengths ranging from the abundantly cautious to the dangerously daring (as for tops, well there was nothing much to comment), macho men with belligerent tattoos, Heinikken promo girls with fetching dark and light green coveralls – oh you needed eyes all around the head.

The technique of following the magnificent men and their means machines was multiple times the Ascot style of gently swiveling your carefully coiffured head with a fancy hat,
from left to right across an arc of 120° in keeping with the gallop of the horses. If you have a crick in the neck don’t bother buying a ticket.

As a mechanical engineer I couldn’t help feeling for the lowly piston at the core of it all reciprocating furiously with the near continuous ignition inside a tortured cylinder head. But who cares? The ear drum piercing decibel level of the engine to many, is a scream come true!

  1. Yes it is dangerously sensational ! Hope you ears would be fine enough when you return to India . Missing Mike Schumacher. He is my all time fav.

  2. Oh, this was in 2019! When Schumacher was making podium a habit, our youngest’s email ID ran “fanatic Ferrari fan”
