No obligations! You are of course perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice,  go ahead – save 30 seconds!

Olive berries on fig tree?

This is a problem with some people – a split personality, as it were. Based on their upbringing, family background and faith, you expect them to react in a particular fashion to situations. But they disappoint you. They alternate between Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde at irregular intervals; you don’t know which character is going to show up when. It is for a scenario such as this I think, that James writes these memorable verses.

We need to be wholesome, integrated, consistent. It cannot be that we conduct ourselves in a particular fashion on Sundays and quite differently on weekdays.

This is life; not theatre!
