A demurring prayer!

The children of Israel asked for a king. And Samuel didn’t like it, for it meant a rejection of his two sons, judges in Israel at that time; but nevertheless he looked to God in prayer. I see a hallmark of humility here. Praying for something the people ask for even though that could personally disadvantage you!

And we see the Lord pacifying Samuel saying it was really a rejection of Him and not Samuel. Further, He directs Samuel to go ahead and heed the people’s voice but yet caution them about the consequences.

Can you put your interests aside and pray?

  1. Hello Judah,
Never thought of it this way, that he was disappointed, that the people of Israel did not want his sons as judges.
I thought that even God was not pleased with his sons.
