Hey Martha, don’t make one almighty fuss !

It is not the best time to be mopping the floor or lighting the stove, when the Lord of lords and God of gods is holding court in the drawing room. The problem with Martha was that she had set an agenda for herself. Even though it was a good agenda, it was her agenda. And it gave her a sense of self importance. Why, she could have completed her preparations before the King of Glory came in! Was she trying to win some brownie points from Jesus for her labour while Mary is shown up as a zilch!

Where you are in your relationship with God is more important than what you are doing for Him. There is at times a tendency to cover up the lack of a vibrant relationship by activities.

Everything needs to be put aside, for a place by His side!

  1. “Where you are in your relationship with God is more important than what you are doing for Him. There is at times a tendency to cover up the lack of a vibrant relationship by activities.”

A simple truth missed frequently by the most sincere Christian, and typically by less faithful Christians like myself.

    Thank you Judah Annan.

  2. Absolutely .
However, human tendency is to prioritise ‘self agenda’. May be its harmlessly good for every one still it is ‘selfish’. It is not that Martha doesn’t know it is best to be with Jesus and listen to His words. Guess she lost the battle in her mind even without a struggle to put her ‘self’ on the winning podium.
Moral : Sin is dangerous. Self, danger-o- danger.
