Swimming upstream?
Conventional wisdom holds that we are shaped by our surroundings, steered by our situation, carried by the current. But is it possible to lead a righteous life in Sodom? Ask Lot. Is it possible to be true and faithful to Christ in a city where Satan is enthroned? Ask the church in Pergamos.
We are not called to bend to the forces that act upon us. Show some spunk.

Stand up is all Ok! But if you show some spine, be prepared for consequences, which may not, always, be favourable . The easier, more tempting option is to swim, with the current!
