Author’s Note

Dead men don’t write.

Even Abel’s blood only cried out or spoke from the ground! I was almost gone on the 19th of June 2019 but God spared my life. These writings then – Bible based Daily Readings – are an expression of my gratitude.

In the same passage in chapter 2 of his book that includes the memorable words “the just shall live by faith” – the corner stone of the Protestant Reformation movement launched by Martin Luther – the prophet Habakkuk also talks about the Lord telling him to “write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it”.

That original vision is somewhat “woe”ful, but I was inspired by the idea of the 21st century human being catching a biblical truth while running feverishly, frenetically in the fast lane of life. I also thought I should keep it simple, with one main grain of truth in focus, rather than populate the plate with multifarious delicacies. The readings are numbered from 1 to 366 ; you can pick any one without concern as to losing thematic continuity, for, there is none. There are though, some slight topical touches here and there keeping in view the calendar, which for the purpose of these readings started on 1 July 2019 and ended 30 June 2020.

Since time is at a premium for today’s jet-setter, I  endeavoured to keep the readings  short, typically readable in about half a minuteThe Bible references are hyper-texted for the convenience of those who do not have the time to turn the pages! While they are predominantly in English, in just a handful of instances where the meaning in Tamil is more lucid, the vernacular takes precedence.

My wife Pearl constantly stood by me while I was laid up with a coronary issue; my three sons Yadin, Rabin and Zubin each traveled from different countries to be with me in the hospital during those fateful days. And earlier, Pearl’s cousin Dr.Esther Rojavathy, together with her family, played a crucial role in my timely hospitalization. Many prayed for my recovery both individually and in groups – thanks to each one.

As the initiator, administrator and manager of my blog-site, Rabin has been of solid technical support.  My brother-in-law Peter Anthony it was who encouraged me when I first floated the concept of these daily readings. Some of you – my relatives, friends and acquaintances – have taken the trouble to read these while they were being written in real time over the past one year and published periodically; thanks for keeping me going.
