I will be king!
These are the boastful words of Adonijah, son of David. With David marrying left,right and centre whomsoever his eyes desired and fathering no fewer than nineteen sons (give or take a few), the succession battle raged royally. And Adonijah being handsome and all, thought himself the cats’s whiskers and the smartest thing on two legs! A deadly brew of narcissism and megalomania drove him to exalt himself.
Oh, he had support. Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander. But God? (a big question mark)
