Say Shibboleth!

It appears unthinkably bestial that 42,000 people should lose their lives for their failure to enunciate one syllable right. The Ephraimites simply could not frame their mouth and configure their tongue in the required manner and the Gileadites went on a murderous rampage.

Some of us have difficulty ascribing God the glory, praising Him and saying Hallelujah. This is not a reference to a fetish or (at times) an annoying habit. Nor is it a backhanded suggestion that it should be undertaken on pain of punishment.

Praise is comely!
