Even as you hit the fast lane of life with furious strides that brook no brakes, won’t you pause a moment to grab a grain of scriptural truth embedded herein?

No obligations! You are ofcourse perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice,  go ahead – save 30 seconds!

Eli watched her mouth!

We may not realize it but people are watching us all the time! What is your mouth known for? For snapping at people, for exhibition of petulance, irritation, anger, malicious gossip or is it known for compassionate, kind and gentle words of grace that encourage, edify and inspire? You might think that people are charmed by your wit, your talent, your looks, your piety, your performance…whatever; but what you say in unguarded moments and reflex reactions may well give you away and bring you crashing down  in their esteem with mutterings of “Et tu, Brute”! True the situation involving Hannah here is somewhat different; her lips moved in anguish as she poured her heart out in soundless prayer to God; and Eli arrives at an incorrect conclusion.

But we might draw a broader lesson about being careful about our words, not merely because listeners might run away with their own impressions, but because of our status as the children of God.

Tame your tongue!
