No obligations! You are of course perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice,  go ahead – save 30 seconds!

How do you sing?

We are concerned here with only songs dealing with Christian faith. There are several aspects to singing: music knowledge, good voice, vocal range, breath control, voice production technique and so on. None of these things is mentioned here. So it is reasonable to assume that Paul is going beyond these basics in this instance. And he amplifies it in his epistle to the Ephesians: ” be filled with the Spirit speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”

It is good to pay heed to the caution that some of the “worship” choruses and even some hymns lack depth of meaning and resonate only to some superficial or very personal circumstances or experiences.

Lift your voice to praise God and to edify His children.
