No rope, no bucket!
Jesus was a master at breaking the ice. Disregarding long years of mutual antipathy between the Jews and the Samaritans, He was the one to open the conversation with the stupefied Samaritan woman. As Jesus quickly sublimates the dialogue from the physical to the spiritual, the woman is left behind. She asks a pedestrian question.
Even after the exchanges continue for a while in the same distichous fashion, the woman is none the wiser until Jesus stuns her with the imperative: “Go and get your husband”.
“You will never thirst again”
