Day 161*: Not purified but anointed straightway!

Not purified but anointed straightway!

 

Some churches make a big deal of ceremonies: the vestments the priests wear, the order in which the candles are lighted, the particular liturgy that is appropriate for the day…the list goes on. Indeed Samuel too was a stickler for ceremonies, tutored as he was in all the temple rituals by Eli the high priest. So when he goes to Bethlehem as directed by the Lord to offer a sham sacrifice, he is very particular about purification rites for Jesse and his sons.

But it is interesting to note that the dark horse David who is actually anointed didn’t go through the purification rigmorale. God said “this is the one, up, anoint him”. And the oil was dripping down David’s beard before he could say, “what,oh!

How clean are your hands? How pure is your heart?
