Haughtiness in the holy mountain?

It is frequently said that pride is the deadliest of sins. Indeed it is held that this was the cause of the fall of Lucifer. And among the many verses in the Bible that extol the virtues of humility, James 4:6 quite pointedly says “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” In the light of such clarity, it is surprising to find even among professing Christians the tendency to exalt themselves with self-glorifying titles such as apostle, prophet, bishop, cardinal and so on. Pray, whom are they trying to impress?

The minor prophet Zephaniah also comes down heavily on pride: ” For then I will take away from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty in My holy mountain”.

“Pride goeth before destruction”
