Humility is the key!

Many a time it happens that once we are established, strong and stable we have little use for God. No Bible reading, no daily devotion, no family prayer, no church attendance….and we adopt the Australian attitude of “I am alright Jack”! Such was the case with king Rehoboam of Judah. God of course is watching all the time; He sends an adversary to trouble Rehoboam. The word that came through prophet Shemaiah was stark: “You abandoned me, so I have abandoned you to the hand of Shishak.”

Now the ball is in Jeroboam’s court. He can either be rebellious and receive his just deserts or he can change course and crave the Lord’s favour. To their credit the King and his men humbled themselves.

The Lord relented.
