Kish’s donkeys got lost!
Eh? Surely stories such as this, shouldn’t be making the headlines! Yet there it is, right on top of the ninth chapter of the first book of Samuel. Kish’s donkeys go on a picnic and enjoy themselves so much that they decide to go farther, AWOL ! The owner loses no time in despatching his son Saul along with a servant in search of the donkeys. They go up and down the country but could not find the animals. (Now how they can identify Kish’s donkeys among the thousands that roam the countryside is a mystery – don’t all donkeys look alike?) Oh, possibly they were branded – I am 1 of x of Kish’s donkeys and so on.
To cut a long story short, this was God’s way of arranging an encounter for the future king with the prophet Samuel; mysterious? you bet! Now who was instrumental in setting it up? Saul’s servant, that’s who! He was so resourceful that he even produced a gift for the prophet.
Listen to the lesser guys. They may know more than you!
Listen to the lesser guys! Takes disciplined humility. But one must seek the Kingdom. The voices of the lesser guys hold the keys to the Kingdom.
