Day 218*: Boaz on the brink!

  (credit: Varsha Salome)

Even as you hit the fast lane of life with furious strides that brook no brakes, won’t you pause a moment to grab a grain of scriptural truth embedded herein ? (click on hypertext in the Day’s Reading for reference verse)

No obligations! You are of course perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice,  go ahead – save 30 seconds!

Boaz on the brink!

This guy Boaz was righteous to a fault. By the time chapter 4 of Ruth comes around, it would appear that he was deeply in love with the woman and it is reasonable to assume the feeling was fully reciprocated. But he is not the type who trots away into the wild West once he gets the “gal”! A stickler for propriety, he first affords the privilege to a close kinsman-redeemer. He calls the kinsman; he comes. He asks him to sit down; he sits. He asks him to redeem Naomi’s land; he agrees. You can imagine Boaz’s heart sinking at every turn! (Time to start praying for him!!)

It is not until the very end that he reveals that the land to be redeemed comes with the woman. The kinsman-redeemer blinks.

Will your faith hold when all hope is nearly gone?
