Don’t call me “Pleasant”, please!
The problem is man’s (and woman’s) view is limited. We know what has happened but we have little idea what is going to happen. We extrapolate our future on the basis of our past experiences. Yes, her husband Elimelech was dead and so were her two sons Mahlon and Kilion. Naomi had every reason to be bitter. And she didn’t say anything that was not true. But the point is, her pain and sorrow coupled with the acute embarrassment of coming home a near destitute, prevented any quotient of faith.
There was no prayer in her lament and no hope in her elegy. All seemed lost.
But, now we know God was acting all the time!
