Stooping to conquer!
Gideon was a gallant warrior. He routed the combined armies of Midian, Amalek and the people of the east with just 300 men, employing a clever military tactic. The men of Ephraim followed up, chased off the Midianites and killed their commanders. Afterwards they found fault with Gideon for not mustering them when he first proceeded to battle and argued heatedly with him. This time Gideon won them over with a tactic of self-negation!
Thereafter, Gideon goes after the kings of Midian, captures them and eventually kills them. And then the Israelites come to him again and say: “be our ruler”!
“Be wise as a serpent”!
