Where shall we go?
It is astonishing that the “chosen race” which experienced God’s presence, provision and protection could even raise this basic question, whilst on the border of the promised land. There seems to be a serious identity crisis here. When the whole purpose of their remarkable exodus from Egypt has been stated time and again, what kind of a mindset would come up with this ridiculous question? Would God leave His people high and dry in the wilderness?
If we dig into this passage in Deuteronomy 1 where this question of despair is recorded, we see the proximate cause of the lament. The people have been lending their ears to the discouraging report of the ten spies who scouted the land of Canaan.
Let’s not get swept away by the majority opinion.
