The House of Prayer

“It is written,” He (Jesus) said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.'” Jesus’s words are good for all time; in many respects that severe indictment holds good today too. The church, referring to the building, is many things to many people: a social club, marriage bureau, a quiet place for silent texting, fashion catwalk, jewelry exhibition, talent show, committee elections, political caucus, a board room bedlam and even a place alas, to practise sermons!

We will do well to search our hearts and examine ourselves as we “draw near with faith” and ” devote ourselves to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching” and ” consider all God’s works and meditate on all His mighty deeds.”

” But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.”
