Call a spade a spade

This is the age of political correctness. We bend backwards to avoid hurting people with our choice of words. ‘Handicapped’ has given way to ‘People with Disability’, ‘blind’ to ‘visually challenged’, ‘mental disorder’ to ‘special needs’ and so on. Fair enough. But we need to sit up when this tendency creeps into the church, and goes overboard. Isaiah warns us:” Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

In an effort not to offend people, we sugarcoat sin and drawback from showing them its ugly side. This is a tendency Isaiah decries.

Many-a-time truth is hard to swallow!
