Day 268*: Et tu Paul?

  (credit: Varsha Salome)

Even as you hit the fast lane of life with furious strides that brook no brakes, won’t you pause a moment to grab a grain of scriptural truth embedded herein ? (click on hypertext in the Day’s Reading for reference verse)

No obligations! You are of course perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice, go ahead – save 30 seconds!

Et tu Paul?

Even the best of God’s men sometimes get swept away by the tide of public opinion. Such was the case with Paul when he returned to Jerusalem after one of his missionary journeys. This was the guy who shouted from the rooftop that ” Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”, thundered that ” Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts”, and fiercely held that salvation comes by faith through grace, not works.

Listening to James and the elders, here Paul is taking four men to the temple for purification rites, (shall we say) after the “tradition of men”! The plan backfired.

Stick to your guns in the Lord!
