Oh, to die like Jacob!

The Supplanter did a lot of wrong things in his life and received a just recompense. But through all the vicissitudes of his largely vagrant life, he held on to the God of his father Isaac and grandfather Abraham. And God was kind to him in his death! Surrounded by his children including the long lost Joseph and his sons, Jacob gets to give them all one final homily, replete with blessings, admonition and prophecy – followed by funeral instruction.

Then he dies a glorious death. What a way to go for the father of the nation of Israel! When it is our time to go, wouldn’t we wish for such a peaceful, blessed end?

Life’s work done. Race finished!
