Got to get to church on time!
Those of us who are tradition bound and overly punctilious, miss out on off-the-road opportunities for meaningful service. The half-dead man on the Jericho road clearly is in need of ministrations and medical help but the minister of God has ‘more important’ things on his mind. I imagine the priest was heading in the other direction to get to the Temple of God in Jerusalem; he doesn’t want his Sabbath clothes sullied. Also he was in a bit of a hurry; extending help to the hapless wayfarer would only hinder his progress!
What is important to us? Do we want to get to the church on time to show off our Sunday best and occupy our regular pew? Or can we along the way look for opportunities to do good?
Start early for church, just in case……!
