One God!
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one”. Thus begins a plaintive plea by God in the book of Deuteronomy. Yet the Bible is full of stories of how the people of God went astray time and again. Why, not many days out of Egypt, they were pointing to the golden calf and whatever else, and saying “Israel, these are your gods, who brought you up from the land of Egypt!”
Israel was so unfaithful and inconstant in the one thing that mattered most throughout its history, that God had to keep reminding the nation (KJV).
