No obligations! You are ofcourse perfectly at liberty to skip these Readings altogether. Should that be your choice,  go ahead – save 30 seconds!

Who put the money in your pocket?

True; Jesus, referring to the devil, says “he comes to steal….”. While that is indubitable as concerns peace in your relationship with God, to my mind there are also times when the devil does the opposite. As for instance when you are willfully running away from God; when you deliberately disobey His expressed will. All at once things turn favourable. Pray, who is directing the operations? The devil himself. And he is pretty good at it. Not for nothing does he have a Doctorate in Contra Divinity!

So it is no surprise at all that when Jonah slipped his hand into his pocket, he found the money to buy a ticket to go to Tarshish, which was not the place where God wanted him to go.

Are you a man after the devil’s own heart?
