Whither the gods of Hamath and Arpad?
Quite often God allows things to go from bad to worse for His people before stepping in. So it was that Hezekiah, the godly king, having done everything to please the Lord, found himself pushed to the wall by Sennacherib, king of Assyria in move after sinister move. Finally tottering on the brink of disaster, Hezekiah goes to the temple of the Lord and prays:
“Bend down, O Lord, and listen….it is true that the Assyrians have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burnt them….But you alone,O Lord, are God!” Then the Lord intervenes and works a miracle.
“But they were only idols of wood and stone, not gods at all!”
