Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, from May 30 to June 1, marking the culmination of his Lok Sabha election campaign. Prime Minister Modi will meditate at the Dhyan Mandapam, the same place where Swami Vivekananda meditated, from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1. This site holds significant spiritual importance, akin to how Sarnath is pivotal in the life of Gautam Buddha.
Kanyakumari is revered as the place where Swami Vivekananda had a vision of Bharat Mata after meditating for three days. Additionally, mythology states that Goddess Parvati meditated here on one foot while waiting for Bhagwan Shiv. This southernmost tip of India is also where the Eastern and Western coastlines converge, and where the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea meet.
PM Modi’s visit to Kanyakumari is seen as a gesture of national unity. He has a history of undertaking spiritual journeys at the end of election campaigns. In 2019, he visited Kedarnath, and in 2014, he visited Shivaji’s Pratapgarh.
Lok Sabha election context
The elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats are being conducted in seven phases, starting on April 19. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. PM Modi’s visit to Kanyakumari aligns with the final phase of his election campaign activities.
