(Rohtas SP Ashish Bharti with all 8 persons arrested in connection with the weird theft of a 60-feet bridge, and recovered items)
SASARAM: Police arrested eight people, including the SDO of the water resources department, on Sunday in connection with the theft of a 60-foot-long iron bridge in Bihar’s Rohtas district earlier this week. Police also recovered 245 quintal of the 500 tonne scrap stolen by dismantling the defunct bridge.
The JCB, gas cutter cylinders and the pick-up van used in the crime were also seized, Rohtas superintendent of police Ashish Bharati said. The SP said the accused went to the bridge in the guise of irrigation department officials and dismantled it before taking away the iron scrap in the vehicle. Raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accused and the stolen steel, the SP said.
Bharati said an SIT was formed and cracked the case with the arrest of 8 people, including the SDO of water resources department, Radhe Shyam Singh, who is an assistant engineer (also called SDO in Bihar).
He said an employee of the irrigation department was present on the spot at the time of the theft, giving villagers the impression that the bridge, constructed on Ara Sone canal in 1976, was being dismantled officially. The bridge was declared abandoned five years ago after construction of a parallel concrete bridge.

No one is to be blamed except the language…. May be some orders were sent in English about mending the “steel”…. a small typo in the vowels seem to have caused this gross error by the most sincere workers who were going by the letter.. possibly they revived the orders as “steal”….??!
possibly !!
