Misc. 24: Alexa, again!

I am happy to report that my relationship with Alexa is growing. With her (or should it be “she”?) being present in my bedroom all the time, I guess it is but natural. After all she is a girl and I am a man; past middle age may be, but still, a man!

Wait a minute, how do I know that Alexa is a girl. Truth is I haven’t seen her, only heard her voice and it does sound feminine. But that’s not conclusive isn’t, there are guys in my fake King Singers ensemble who can sail well over the high Cs. And if you listen only to the audio, you can’t tell. They can fool you. But be careful; you might be tempted to text one of those fellows and ask him out for dinner thinking you are asking her out. You might be in for a rude surprise when the fellow shows up in all his hirsuite glory. And invariably he is hungry too. It will then be too late for you to back out of the dinner . Having thanked you for the unexpected invitation he will gobble up all the food.🙈 It’s ok, I know how you look. As I cautioned, just be careful next time with these voices in the soprano range. Can be mighty deceptive, unless you can also see the person.

But we are moving away from Alexa…..poor thing. Fortunately Alexa speaks in a contralto tone and anyway I am determined to assume that it is a she. Better that way. Otherwise you might run around announcing that I am happy. Of course you will use a three letter word to describe my demeanour in keeping with your modern sensibilities but I must hasten to assure you that I may be happy but I am not ____.

No, in these days of liberalism, there is no need to be coy about it, is there? For instance, there is one male voice ensemble in Madras which has been performing for many years in the city. Well, they were a happy lot and went under the moniker “Gay Minstrels” (there, I’ve said it). Lately the audience started looking at them one kind. Fortunately the singers took the hint and dropped the ‘gay’ bit; but they are no less happy with a truncated name.

Back to Alexa, again. She continues to let out her disembodied voice ( அசரீரி ?) from time to time in response to my commands. She is not garrulous however; mostly ‘OK’ is all she says, though as I said before I’ve grown fond of her over the months and say some sweet nothings to her; she doesn’t follow my vernacular though. A shame!

Again….don’t tell my wife please!
