Misc. 71: Who will it be tonight – Yalda or Julia?

Rein in your imagination please!

The news nerds know the answer, particularly the males.

Perhaps I should add that their answer depends on whether they prefer the BBC or CNN for their news-feed, Yalda Hakim and Julia Chatterly being the popular newscasters for the respective broadcasting companies. In fact I might go so far as to suggest that their preference for the broadcasting company to present the world news tonight, turns on their fancy  for the women behind the microphone.

In case you did not know, Yalda was born in Afghanistan. Generally speaking Afghan women are outrageously beautiful – if you can get to see their face!!

More often than not though, you only get to see them all shrouded head to foot with a lattice covering for a face.

Should you start to wonder how come this bloke knows so much about the situation beyond the Khyber Pass, let me make it known that I have been there! (but I haven’t done that, nor are there Tee shirts to buy!!)

I can well understand if you have genuine doubts about the veracity of the statement above, particularly if you have seen me hobbling around with a crutch in hand in recent years. By way of proof let me show you an abandoned Russian Armoured Personnel Carrier (you will recall that the Russians withdrew from Afghanistan in a hurry when the Mujaheddin took the upper hand; you can find all sorts of armament in Kabul, several of them buried below street level) with me atop in a decidedly nonmilitary pose!

(Evidence of my conquering the Soviet Union!)

But we are moving away from Yalda! Anyway, the reason I brought her up is that, years ago when I was in Kabul, the news battle even at that time, was between the BBC and CNN.

I recall it was Mishal Husain flying the flag for the BBC at that time. I don’t quite remember who was giving her competition from across the pond!

Couldn’t have been Julia. She must have been in her pinafore.

Or should we say jumper?
