Background Story (Statesman Journal 31 May2013)
According to the Statesman Journal, around 9 a.m. Wednesday, Burdek allegedly brought a pressure cooker he claimed was a bomb into the office of the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. He reportedly told the receptionist he tried to blow up the sign outside their office but his bomb didn’t work.
Burdek was reportedly upset because the sign was missing the “d” in: “State of Oregon Teacher Standards an (sic) Practices Commission.”
When employees called police, Burdek allegedly took his pressure cooker and left the scene.
He was spotted about an hour later in a van and was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, the station says. A police official told the Statesman Journal that the pressure cooker was not a bomb.
